Are you currently appointing new agents? Yes

What type of agency is your company looking for? We are looking to work with independent agencies that meet the following criteria: Multiple producers; A minimum of $1,000,000 in commercial account premiums; that has been in business a minimum of 3 years; and has a strong orientation to one or more of our niche programs.

What are your premium volume requirements? We require a volume commitment of at least $250,000 before we will consider contracting with an agency. We discuss profit sharing thresholds individually with our agencies. Also, we realize that some contracting accounts are handled by a local independent agent that does not meet the above contract requirements. So, we have developed our Town & Country Program to address the market needs of the smaller agencies. The program allows an agency access to our specialty programs on an individual basis without the burden of a required premium threshold.

Are you currently doing any niche marketing program? Bituminous is a niche market for the following areas:
Commercial General Contractors; Building Trades Contractors; Transportation Construction Contractors; Utility Construction Contractors; Land Improvement Contractors; Water Well Drilling Contractors; and Construction Material Suppliers.

What is your company's most aggressive line of business? At Bituminous we feel that we offer the coverages the customer needs at a price that is fair to both the customer and our company. Because we start on a fair level, we typically only need to make slight adjustments in our premium levels, we don't see the need for drastic changes in premium levels from year to year.

Do you use credit scoring? Yes. Credit scoring is used on both new and renewal business.

Do you currently download/upload with your agencies? No.

What methods do you use to distribute your insurance products? At Bituminous we strongly believe in the independent agent. That is why we only use independent agents to distribute our insurance products.

What makes your company stand out from all the rest in Illinois? Why would an agent want to contract with your company? At Bituminous we provide insurance programs for the real world. We are committed to delivering quality service to customers in a few select industries. Because we concentrate on those industries listed above, we feel we are experts in covering the needs of today's contractors.
