What is PIIAPAC?
The Professional Independent Insurance Agents Political Action Committee
(PIIAPAC) is an independent organization founded by the Professional
Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois to provide financial support
to Illinois constitutional officers and state legislative candidates who recognize the importance
of the insurance industry in Illinois and who support the basic beliefs
of the independent insurance agent and american agency system.
Who Benefits from PIIAPAC?
You, as an independent insurance agent. PIIAPAC is composed
of PIIAI member-agents who help raise funds and approve contributions
with the advice of our lobbyist. The Committee is kept apprised by
the Government Relations Department of the qualifications, positions
and voting records of all candidates for election to the state constitutional
offices and Illinois General Assembly.
Does PIIAPAC have Impact?
YES! During the last four election cycles, '98, '00, '02 and '04 95%
of the PIIAPAC-supported legislators seeking election won. As a result
of PIIAPAC, four independent agents now serve in the Illinois General
Assembly. They are Senator Larry Bomke (R-50, Springfield), Senator
Dave Syverson (R-34, Rockford), Representative Karen A. Yarbrough (D-7, Maywood), and Representative Roger Jenisch (CR-45, Bloomingdale). Serveral
other members of the General Assembly maintain a producer's license
and are supported by PIIAPAC. As a result of the active political participation
of the members and our political action committee, dozens of key legislative
initiatives directly benefiting independent agents have been enacted
into law and hundreds of detrimental bills have been defeated.
How Can I Help?
Contribute your fair share. Illinois law allows most corporations and
individuals to contribute to political campaigns for state and local
offices. Individual contributions to PIIAPAC may be made in addition
to the contribution by an agency. Lets face it the more
money the PIIAPAC can raise, the stronger the voice independent insurance
agents will have in the General Assembly. PIIAPAC is in the top 50 PACs
in Illinois. However, our participation rate pales in comparison to
similar organizations like the Realtor's PAC, who consistently rank
in the top 10.
How Much Should I Give?
During the past year, the PIIAI Political Action Committee has come
up with a number of ideas to maintain a strong PAC Program. In order
to continue our position as the most influential insurance lobby with
the General Assembly, the Committee would like to offer our member-agents
the following levels to show support:

With remittance of $250 an agency will become a member of PIIAPAC
and Capitol Club. An agency can remit PAC contribution with PIIAI

(breakfast, dinner, luncheon, reception, etc.) scheduled during the
year with legislative or state government officials. Given first chance
to attend area legislative fundraisers. Recognized for membership
in Insurance Insight magazine.
